About The Club
The Pennine Training Area (PTA) was formed in 1960 and is part of the Northern Golden Retriever Association (NGRA). We are a Club run by the Committee (and Members) for the Members. Our aim is to train gundogs. All Retriever breeds are welcome to take part.
The Club provides tuition for everyone from complete novices to experienced handlers. Classes are held regularly throughout the year at venues in Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, and near Sheffield. All locations offer a good variety of ground and cover – providing opportunities to train in fields, in water, through woods and undergrowth, over fences and walls, and in the company of other dogs and handlers.
All you’ll need to take part is a dog, a dog whistle, a lead, and probably some waterproofs and wellington boots. Indeed you don’t even have to have a dog – if you’re interested in gundog training – you’re welcome to come along to watch, learn, and ask for advice.
Please browse our website. There’s more information about our training programme, and our Events Calendar will let you know you what’s on and when. Please get in touch with us if you’d like to get involved, or if you need to know more.
In order to contact the Club please see the Contact page for options. We’ll endeavour to answer all queries, or direct you to another source of information that might help.
Perhaps we’ll see you soon.
